or, Captivity Captive

by X.B. Saintine

Front Cover:

This is a very lovely old book. It is an example of Napoleonic Literature about the Count and Countess de Charney. The book was published in 1893 by D. Appleton, New York. The book measures 6 ¼ inches by 8 5/8 inches and contains vii, 221 pages. The cover consists of cloth covered spine up to about ½ of the boards and the remainder of the boards are paper covered hard boards. The spine has lovely gilt and silver detailing and pictorial. The paper covering the boards has a lovely gilt floral theme. The cover shows signs of wear to the edges. The paper portion is worn to the boards and shows signs of “chips” around the edges. The cloth portion is frayed at the top and bottom of the spine. The spine is tight and the hinges are strong. The end pages are brown paper. What appears to be an old price sticker is on the inside front cover. Another sticker has been removed taking the surface of the paper along with it. The pages are printed on good quality, glossy paper and show no signs of rips or foxing. The date and the initials of a previous owner are inscribed on a blank page in front of the book. Exceptions noted, the overall condition of this nice old book is good plus.
