This is a very neat old book. It tells about the ruins and has a number of vintage photographs and two large fold outs. The book was published in 1948, Merida, Yucatan, Mexico. The soft cover book measures 6 ½ inches by 8 7/8 inches and contains 50 pages. The front and back covers are removed but are present. In addition, the front and back covers are chipped and have some creasing. The covers are in poor condition. The book is bound by staples. The pages are yellowed. For the most part, the pages show no signs of rips. The top right corner of the title page has some old markings. The title page and the last page have some small tears along the fore edge. The remaining pages show no signs of rips. Exceptions noted, the overall condition of the book itself is good plus.

Temple of the Phalli
Four hundred and fifty yards south of the so-called House of the Old Woman we come across this temple, supposed to have been kept for the phallic worship, now in a very poor preservation.
It’s main façade, now all gone off, looked northwards as on this side are still seen the chamber vaults, which probably, in original design, must have been one on the front side and double ranges of chambers to the sides. On its south front there is a doorway, and vestiges of chambers in the east end. In the west side nothing but rubbish of this once magnificent temple.
On this south front the façade shows as follows: first is a three-element basement of plain stone, a first cornice of three listels, a smooth stone entablature, a second cornice of two listels coped by the roof ridge. The central portion of this building is 34 feet long.
On top of the second cornice was the exclusively characteristic ornamentation of this building – a tier of phalli – of which only one is in its original place. Hence the name given to this building – Temple of the Phalli…
