    Excerpt – Dust Jacket:
The Man from Missouri brings together selected writings from the career of Harry S. Truman, 33rd President of the Untied States. It’s a book filled with his wit and wisdom.

Here we meet the man from Independence, Mo., who at age 63 became leader of the most powerful nation in the world. Here is the man who made the decision to end the most destructive war in history by using the most destructive weapon ever devised, the atomic bomb. Here are the President’s words heralding the creation of the Marshall Plan and the United Nations. Here are his words beginning the desegregation of the United States civil service and armed forces.

Here, too, is Truman the man; The President of the United States explains that he is obliged to attend a women’s club dinner meeting because “Mrs. Truman made this engagement for the two of us; and when I have a date with Mrs. Truman, I usually keep it.” He notes his mother’s only comment when he was nominated for the Vice-Presidency – “Oh, well, I like him just as well as before…”
