British Butterflies

by E.B. Ford

Dust Jacket:

This is a very lovely old book about butterflies. The book was published in 1951 by Penguin Books. The book measures approximately 5 inches by 7 inches and contains 32 pages of text plus 16 color plates. The dust jacket of the book shows signs of wear and soiling. There are chips and rips to the edge and the front of the dust jacket is entirely torn from the rest of the piece. The paper covered boards of the book itself show minor signs of wear. The spine is tight and the hinges are strong. The pages show no signs of rips. The pages of text are a bit warped towards the top. The signature of a previous owner is inscribed on the front free end page. Exceptions noted, the overall condition of this book is good.

Excerpt - Dust Jacket:
Dr E.B. Ford, of the University Museum, Oxford, is one of the most distinguished amongst English biologists, equally well known for his research and for the rare skill with which he can present its results. British Butterflies is not just another guide to identification but an account of some of the most interesting biological problems presented by butterflies, such as chemical classification, coloration, variability, migration and habitats. The drawings were specially done for the book by Paxton Chadwick, whose plates of reptiles for a recent King Penguin Book have established him as one of the best illustrators of natural history in the country.
