Indiana

1930

by Genevieve Brown, A.N. Bobbitt, J. Otto Lee, Committee

Front Cover:

This is a very interesting, old book about all things Indiana. This book was published in 1930 by The Board of Public Printing, Indianapolis. The covers of the book are neither hard nor soft, but a cloth, covered, thin board covering. The covers have and embossed textured finish. The title and a pictorial of the state capitol, and the state seal are embossed on the front cover with gilt detailing. The cover shows signs of wear. The hinges are strong and the spine is tight. The front free end page of the book has been removed. The pages are printed on a good quality, glossy paper. For the most part, the pages show no signs of foxing. The title page and the back free end page show light foxing. Several of the pages are crumpled slightly along the edges with tiny tears, other than that the pages show no signs of rips. Exceptions noted, the overall condition of this book is good.

    Excerpt - Foreword:
Too many of our citizens take Indiana for granted. This book has been prepared with the idea in mind that information arranged in an attractively illustrated way with photographs of the men and women who have been and are intimately connected with the State’s political activities as well as pictures in some instances of the activities themselves, would serve to attract and inform those Hoosiers who really take pride in and want to boost their state. The government of Indiana is largely the result of a rapidly growing community. Departments and commissions have been added as the need for them has been shown. These appear in this volume in the order in which they were created. The story appearing with the department has been in each instance prepared by the department itself.

Indiana’s prominence politically, industrially, in literary circles, in education, even in athletic endeavor, should cause every home-loving Hoosier’s heart to leap in pride when he contemplates her achievements in every line of possible human endeavor.

Inquires come from the four corners of the earth as to the manner of Indiana’s doing things. Her highways, benevolent and correctional institutions are models of their kind. Her patriotism and culture are emulation of her sister states.

May this little volume inspire Indiana citizens to a new sense of pride and create a desire in their hearts to achieve that standard of Citizenship which will mean better homes and happier peoples.

    Harry G. Leslie
    Governor of Indiana
