Hair Culture
Rational Methods for Growing
The Hair and for Developing
Its Strength and Beauty

by Bernarr Macfadden

Front Cover:

This is a very unusual, old book about hair care. It covers a wide variety of hair care topics. The book was published in 1924 by Mcfadden Publications, Inc., New York. The book measures 5 inches by 7 1/8 inches and contains xii, 199 pages. The title is on the front in gilt and had been down the spine but is now quite faded. The cover shows signs of wear to the edges, corners and to the spine area. The spine is tight and the hinges are strong. The pages show no signs of rips or foxing. Exceptions noted, the overall condition of this old book is good.

Left: The proper way for women to comb their hair. Divide the hair into strands and begin combing at the bottom, taking it up a few inches higher at a time. Comb in turn each strand in this way until all the hair has been straightened.

Right: The brushing of the hair should be done after it has been carefully combed out. Always brush downward from the roots of the hair to the ends at one stroke.

Baby’s hair and scalp must be treated most gently. The comb should not be used the first six months or year. The brushing should be gently done with a soft brush.

The dry cleaning or dry shampoo is an important means of keeping the scalp properly clean, and should be taken regularly once or twice a week. Part the hair, and with a soft cloth wound around the finger, rub the part free of all scurf and dust. The entire scalp is to be gone over in this way.
