Country Life Picture Book of London

Introduction by John Codrington

Front Cover:

This book is filled with many vintage photographs of sights in London. Please contact us if you are interested in a particular location and we would be most happy to tell you if it is depicted in this book. This book was published in 1951 by Country Life Limited, London. The book measures 9 inches by 11 ½ inches and contains 88 full page photographs plus additional pages of text, advertising, etc. The gray hard board cover shows signs of wear and is slightly discolored. The title is in gilt on the front. The spines is tight and the hinges are strong. The pages are printed on good quality paper and show no signs of rips. The bottom right hand corner of the book is slightly bumped. Exceptions noted, the overall condition of the book is good.

The Monument. The two-hundred-foot column of Wrens memorial to the Great Fire of 1666 rises above streets crowded by the porters of nearby Billingsgate-for hundreds of years London’s chief fish market.

The Statue of Oliver Cromwell, Westminster Hall. The splendid statue of the great Protector stands before Westminster Hall where he was proclaimed the Protector. The Hall dates from 1097, in the time of William Rufus.

In Curzon Street, Mayfair. This attractive front hints at the elegance of a street which runs west to Park Lane through Mayfair, a name symbolic of London’s wealth and fashion all over the world.
