Bride in the Solomons

by Osa Johnson

Front Cover:

Osa Johnson lived adventures that many of us can only dream of. This book was published in 1944 by Garden City Publishing Co, Inc., Garden City, New York. The brown cloth cover shows minor signs of wear to the edges, corners and to the top and bottom of the spine. The spine is tight and the hinges are strong. The name of a previous owner is inscribed on the front free end page. The pages show no signs of rips or tears. Exceptions noted, the overall condition of this book is good.

Left: Mr. Bell holding court. The shackled native (second from left) was found guilty of murder, taken to his village and executed.

Right. Mr. Bells houseboy. He wears the smartest costume in the islands - white shorts and coat, stiff collar and black tie, yellow orchid in the top buttonhole.

Contents:

Left: Sua, chief of the artificial islands, poses with his favorite wife and son and one of Mr. Bells soldiers. The most intelligent and powerful of the Lagoon chiefs, he would do practically anything for money. That made him chief.

Right: Native children on the artificial islands. These sea-urchins learn to paddle a canoe and swim before our children are out of the carriage. They are completely unafraid of sharks and are seldom bitten.

Left: On the Balesuna River near Penduffryn. The heavy jungles are full of flowering vines, orchids and rare, colorful birds.

Right: Osa at seventeen, before the Tulagi jungle expedition.
