This book was published in 1988 by University of Texas Press, Austin. The book measures 7 3/8 inches by 10 inches and contains 256 pages of text and 126 pages of photographs. The dust jacket shows minor signs of wear. The actual cover of the book shows no signs of wear to speak of. The spine is tight and the hinges are strong. The pages show no signs of rips. Exceptions noted, the overall condition of the book itself is good.


Rice production throughout Bali is ordered by a calendar of religious events. Offerings to the Rice Goddess are erected on the terraces on specified occasions, and religion pervades every aspect of Balinese life - from dance to funeral and carved images of demons, are an ever present reminder of the dangers of nonconformity.

Three generations of the Seematter family are the present day representatives of one of 12 family lines that have lived at Torbel , in the Swiss Alps, continuously for at least 500 years.


The equatorial rainforests of west and central Africa produce at least 20 times more vegetation per unit area than the Kalahari each year, but most of it is piled up in trees and only about 2.5 percent of the biomass is actually available to feed the people and the animals they hunt.
